Turnitin is a cloud based tool which allows you to check your assignments for originality and allows lecturers to mark your work. You can submit your assignment to Turnitin before its due date to view whether you have adequately referenced your sources or whether you have an issue with plagiarism. You can then correct your assignment before its final submission.
The Turnitin website has a number of helpful tutorials for student so that you get the most out of the system.
Quick Start Guide
This quick start will help you get started with Turnitin and will walk you through the steps for submitting your first assignment.
If you have received an e-mail from Turnitin with a temporary password, a user profile has been created for you. (If you have not received an email please contact Denise.) To get started, go to www.turnitin.com
- Log in to Turnitin with your e-mail address and password.
(If you lose your password you can request a new one on the login page).
Your class will show up on your homepage.
- Click on the name of your class to open your portfolio.
Your class portfolio shows the assignments your instructor has created and your submissions to the class.
- Click the Submit button to open the submission page.
After the submission page has opened, enter a title for your paper. Your title should be your unit code and assignment number (e.g. NT301/2) To select a paper for submission, click the browse button and locate the paper on your computer or drop-box. Turnitin accepts submissions in these formats:
- Microsoft Word™ (DOC and DOCX)
- Corel WordPerfect®
- Adobe PostScript®
- Plain text (TXT)
- Rich Text Format (RTF)
- Portable Document Format (PDF)
- Microsoft PowerPoint (PPT, PPTX, and PPS)
- Hangul (HWP)
